We’re offering this 1950 full-choke Sportsman 48 for only $249. The cold blue refinish appears confined to the receiver area, and is not a major detraction in our estimate. The Model 12/12A was produced from 1909 to 1936.
#Remington sportsman 78 manufacture dates code
This good solid old Remington 12 gauge has no visible cracks to its wood anywhere, and is perfectly operational. On Remington guns manufactured after 1920 there is a 2 or 3 letter code on the left side of the barrel near the receiver. Bore and chamber are Excellent: the bore shot shows dirt, not pitting. This is definitely a shooter, if the operator is not too recoil-sensitive.

The mechanism, receiver parts, and recoil springs are all original Remington and intact. The bolt and floorplate, as the photos show, are a dark brownish-blue patina, probably from some cold bluing and age. The barrel, happily, retains perhaps as much as 70 percent of its original bluing, and the trigger guard assembly retains about that much of its original anodized finish. These two letters can be decoded to find out the date your firearm was manufactured. You need to use two letter code which is located on barrel of your firearm. The receiver is about 20 percent reblue and the remainder a brown-gray patina. Remington Serial/Barrel Number Lookup enables you to check when your Remington firearm was manufactured. Most guns are eligible for a new trigger mechanism free of charge. The XP-100 bolt-action pistol is also likely affected.
